On Friday, September 21, 2012 at 9:45am I was diagnosed with “Classic” Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Dr. Eric J. Seifter, my oncologist, called me at my office and told me the news directly, just as I wanted. As I would find out on the following Tuesday after a PET/CT scan, I have Stage 3A, mixed cellularity subtype HL. The main purpose of this blog is to share information with my family and friends. I have made this a public blog so that others might learn something about HL with a little more ease.

Second Opinion Research
Vacation happened too quickly and it's back to work. All of the research I've done has left me with a short list of candidate specialists including Dr. Carole Miller, Dr. Richard Ambinder, Dr. Eric Seifter, and Dr. Stephen Noga. I'm a bit of a resume snob and have looked for a doctor from an upper tier medical school, with an impressive history that combines teaching, research, and a current practice at a recognized cancer/oncology center. I want the A-team!
I selected Dr. Seifter hoping he would accept my case given that I was not being referred. Dr.
Seifter is a JHU medical oncologist, academic, professor and specialist in "lymphoma". It's in quotes because lymphoma is quite a broad topic as I am quickly finding out. He belongs to a private practice with their own lab and chemotherapy facility. He has an impressive resume including membership in the premier academic society that my father also belongs to - Phi Beta Kappa. It took a little bit of effort to convince his office manager to ask for a call back but I was able to get to the next step.
Dr. Seifter returned my call not long after and we talked for a few mintutes about my history and what's going on. He is very bright, an excellent communicator, and appears to be a problem solver. Best of all I was able to talk my way into an appointment on July 29th.
